Thoughtsonfilm.com,
celebrating its fourth year in 2008, was founded as a LiveJournal
blog in February 2004 and has since expanded into a stand-alone
site with a wide array of features above and beyond film reviews.
All reviews are graded using a five-star scale,
with five stars as our highest recommendation. Generally speaking we recommend
anything with three and a half stars or higher, though the scale
is by no means quantitative and is only loosely comparative.
Grades are determined by each film's respective reviewer. Films
are graded on artistic merit, simple enjoyability, and realization
of the filmmaker's apparent intentions.

Every January, Thoughtsonfilm.com
critics publish their lists of the top 10 movies from the previous
year, and these are used to calculate the top 20 films overall. They
also vote on the winners of the ThoughtsOn Awards, which have
been held since 2007. Unlike the Academy, films are eligible
and counted toward the year in which they are publically distributed
in at least a "limited" release, not just in New
York and Los Angeles. These
lists and winners can be found in the Awards
section.
Thoughtsonfilm.com has plans to expand both in staff and content,
with monthly themes and non-review articles. For more information
on the site, to offer suggestions, or inquire about joining our
team, please email the managing editor at thoughtsonfilm@gmail.com.
